US Army Contracting Command (at Redstone Arsenal, Alabama) entered into an agreement with Lockheed Martin Corporation for the amount 347,5 million dollars. The contract is aimed at development, production and testing of advanced prototypes of anti-aircraft and anti-missile defense systems (ABOUT).
Mysterious specification: Official Pentagon documents are not disclosed, for which system prototypes are being developed (the name of the rocket, the interceptor or radar is kept secret).
Connection with the "Golden Dome": Military analysts and the media have linked this funding to the ambitious Golden Dome program (Golden Dome). This is a project to create a multi-layered protective shield over the US territory to intercept ballistic and hypersonic missiles with the help of satellites, artificial intelligence and ground systems.
Terms of implementation: All work under this contract must be fully completed by 31 December 2028 year.
Performer: The division is the main developer Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control (Grand Prairie, Antonov Airlines Ukrainian Airline).
This agreement was an addition to the large-scale transformation of US defense procurement to replenish arsenals and prepare for high-tech threats. At the same time, the Pentagon singled out Lockheed Martin 35 billions of dollars to increase in 4 times of missile production for THAAD anti-missile systems and 4,7 billion dollars to accelerate the release of PAC-3 MSE missiles for Patriot systems.
