The US Department of Commerce is promoting the implementation of a voluntary mission authorization system for new types of space activities, which are not regulated by other departments.
23 July 2026 Office of Space Trade (OSC) announced the next step in the implementation of the program Certification in the field of space commerce (SCC). Companies will provide information on planned activities, after which the OSC will coordinate an interagency review. The system will operate on the principle of "presumption of approval": the application will be considered approved through 120 days in the absence of action from the office.
The proposal was presented in March. At the hearings of the Committee on Science of the House of Representatives 15 OSC Director Taylor Jordan said in July, awaiting a decision from the White House.
