Ukraine has started negotiations on connection to the European Union's secure satellite systems

The European Commission initiated negotiations with Ukraine on joining the GOVSATCOM systems and the future IRIS² network. As of today, the terms and conditions of joining are agreed.

For reference: IRIS² is the EU's future secure satellite constellation, which is being developed to reduce dependence on non-European communication systems and provide government ones, defense and critical communications.

The GOVSATCOM system unites the available protected satellite resources of the EU countries and ensures the communication of state bodies in crisis situations.

Accession will give Ukraine access to secure EU satellite communications, intended mainly for state and security needs. In the future, this will also enable the use of a common secure communication system by Ukrainian and European military units.
