Croatia officially signed the "Artemis Agreements" (Artemis Accords), becoming the 74th participating country in this international initiative led by NASA and the US State Department.
A solemn ceremony took place 23 September 2026 year in Zagreb. Document, which defines the principles of peace, transparent and sustainable study of the Moon, Mars, comets and asteroids, signed by the Minister of Science on behalf of Croatia, education and youth Radovan Fuchs. The event was also attended by US Ambassador Nicole McGraw and NASA representative in Europe Gregory Mann.
Context and meaning of the event:
Dynamic expansion: IN 2026 "Artemida" coalition is growing extremely fast. Serbia joined it only in recent months (69-and), Turkey (71-Sha) and neighboring Albania, which became the 73rd participant just two days before Croatia — 21 September.
Priorities for Croatia: The leadership of the country noted, that participation in the agreements will open access to advanced space research for the Croatian scientific community, technologies and data exchange. Radovan Fuchs emphasized, that Croatia has a strong position in the field of computer science, software development and satellite data analysis, which will now be integrated into international missions.
Basic principles: Joining Artemis Accords, Croatia is committed to the peaceful use of outer space, registration of space objects, providing emergency assistance to astronauts, publishing scientific data in open access and combating the accumulation of orbital debris.
The next step for Croatia and other new signatories will be to participate in the International Astronautical Congress (IAC), which will take place in October in Istanbul.
