It became known, that Amazon has acquired more 10 Falcon rocket launches 9 at SpaceX for its Amazon Leo satellite internet project (formerly Project Kuiper). This information was disclosed in Amazon's filing with the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) from 30 January 2026 year.
Order details
Number of launches: 10 additional Falcon rocket missions 9.
Goal: Accelerate the deployment of the Amazon Leo Broadband Satellite Array.
Total number of Falcon launches 9: Now Amazon has contracted 13 launches from SpaceX (three have already taken place in summer and autumn 2025 year).
Cause: Amazon faced with “short-term shortage of launch availability” due to delays at other partners (United Launch Alliance, Arianespace, Blue Origin) and production problems.
Amazon also asked the FCC for an extension to deploy half of its group with 3236 satellites. The current deadline is July 2026 year. The company is asking for a two-year extension, until July 2028 year, or complete cancellation of this term.
At the end of January 2026 was in orbit for only about a year 180 satellites of Amazon Leo, while meeting the original deadline required having over 1600 devices. This is an additional order for the Falcon 9 designed to help Amazon catch up and meet regulatory requirements.
