Amazon Unveils Aerial Antenna Amid Intensifying Competition in In-Flight LEO Communications

13 April 2026 2018, Amazon introduced an antenna, which its future constellation of satellites will use to provide gigabit speeds on commercial aircraft. За словами директора компанії з глобального бізнесу Тревора В’юега, електронно-скерована авіаційна антена Amazon Leo сумісна з літаками від регіональних джетів до широкофюзеляжних лайнерів.

For reference: Amazon is the world's largest American technology company and online marketplace, founded by Jeff Bezos in 1994 year. Specializes in e-commerce, cloud computing (AWS), streaming (Prime Video) and electronics manufacturing (Kindle, Echo).

The new antenna will provide the passengers and crew of the plane with uninterrupted high-speed Internet. The antenna is derived from Leo Ultra and has been modified to meet the performance and operational durability requirements of commercial flights. The start of services is planned for the middle of the year 2026 year. Providing Wi-Fi on airplanes will come later, partly because, that it requires a denser grouping of satellites. The company has deployed today 241 satellite of the first generation from the planned ones 3232.

At the same time, Amazon is working to expand its high-speed Internet access technologies through aircraft manufacturers, in particular, concluded an agreement with Airbus on the integration of Leo into the catalog of "factory installation" and "modernization" of the aerospace giant. This can simplify implementation on new and existing aircraft.
