Axiom Space is going to test the spacesuit, which she is developing for the Artemis lunar missions, in space 2027 year — or on the International Space Station (ISS), or during an Artemis mission 3.
13 April 2026 2018, Axiom representatives announced during a briefing at the 41st Space Symposium, that they are nearing completion of testing their Axiom Extravehicular Mobility Unit space suit (AxEMU), which astronauts will wear during spacewalks on the moon. Russell Ralston, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Offshore Operations at Axiom, said, that the company begins to assemble a qualification sample of the space suit, which will be used in future certification tests. These tests include vibration tests to simulate start-up loads and tests in a thermal vacuum chamber,
where a person will be in a spacesuit under pressures and temperatures, similar to space ones.
Axiom has been working with SpaceX for some time, to ensure compatibility of interfaces between AxEMU and the Starship lunar lander. According to Ralston, the company recently started working with Blue Origin, since there is a possibility, that their Blue Moon lander could be used for the first manned landing. At the same time, the company announced, that might test the spacesuit on the ISS instead.
