31 In May, the Blue Origin company sent six people into space as part of the next suborbital mission of the New Shepard rocket. The launch took place from Launch Site One in West Texas 13:39 UTC. The capsule peaked at altitude 105 km, and the total flight time was 10 minutes — the capsule landed a few minutes after the booster.
As part of the NS-32 mission, they went into space:
- Amett (Cure) Medina Jorge — a teacher from Texas, whose flight was sponsored by a Mexican pharmaceutical company Similar Pharmacies;
- Gretchen Green — doctor and businesswoman;
- Jaime Aleman is a Panamanian lawyer and former Panamanian ambassador to the United States;
- Jesse Williams — Canadian entrepreneur and traveler;
- Mark Rocket — a New Zealand businessman, the first investor Rocket Lab;
- Paul Jeris — a real estate developer.
This was the 12th manned flight of New Shepard - in general, the device has already taken it into space 64 man, four of which flew repeatedly. Mark Rocket became the first New Zealander, and Jaime Aleman is the first Panamanian, who visited space.
This year is the fourth flight of New Shepard: three — with people, one is a cargo mission, which simulated lunar gravity. The company does not disclose, how many launches it plans to conduct by the end of the year.
As Blue Origin CEO Dave Limp emphasized during the Humans to the Moon and Mars Summit, the company remains committed to the New Shepard program, попри зосередження зусиль також на розробці важкої ракети New Glenn і місячного посадкового модуля Blue Moon.
На думку Лімпа, New Shepard є не лише комерційно успішним проєктом, but also a valuable test bed for technologies, which will be used in other company programs. In particular, it tests avionics for the New Glenn rocket and lidar for the Blue Moon Mark lander 1, чий перший політ заплановано вже на цей рік.
