CNES is looking for a new operator for the commercial launch complex in Kuru after MaiaSpace

National Center for Space Research of France (CNES) announced the start of the search for a new tenant for the launch pad at the Kourou Cosmodrome (French Guiana), which was previously assigned to the startup MaiaSpace.

Key changes in Kuru:

Exit MaiaSpace: MaiaSpace company, a subsidiary of ArianeGroup, abandoned plans to use the former Soyuz site (THEM). It happened after that, as the company decided to change the concept of its rocket to a bigger and heavier one, which will require a different infrastructure.

New tender: CNES put the site up for competition for other micro developers- and mini media. The main advantage of this complex is the availability of ready-made infrastructure, which significantly accelerates the path to the first launch.

Commercialization strategy: It is part of a larger plan to transform the Guyana Space Center into a multi-user spaceport, where next to Ariane state missions 6 private European companies will work, such as Isar Aerospace or Rocket Factory Augsburg (RFA).

Vacating the site opens the door for competitors, which are competing for the right to become the first private European operator, which will launch from a South American spaceport.
