Cygnus XL freighter, developed by Northrop Grumman, arrived at the International Space Station 19 September after a one-day delay, caused by an engine problem.
The spacecraft was captured by the Canadarm2 manipulator 7:24 Eastern Time (14:24 according to Kyiv) and subsequently attached to the docking port of the Unity module.
Neglected 14 September as part of the NG-23 mission, the ship was supposed to arrive at the station a day earlier. But 16 In September, NASA announced a postponement after that, as the Cygnus main engine shut down prematurely during two separate pulse corrections.
Further analysis showed, that the fault was software related: the security system worked too "conservatively", as a result of which there was an automatic shutdown of the engine. There were no problems when re-maneuvering with the updated sequence of actions.
This flight was the first for the new Cygnus XL modification, which has an elongated sealed cargo module. Its capacity has been increased by 33% compared to the previous version. On board was delivered close 5 tons of cargo, including equipment for scientific experiments, materials for the crew and support systems of the station.
The ship will remain docked with the ISS until spring, after which it will make a controlled descent from orbit.
