Jared Isaacman emphasizes the urgency of returning humans to the moon

3 December 2025 of the year during hearings leaders of the Senate Committee on Commerce, of science and transport said, that they want to confirm Jared Isaacman as NASA administrator as soon as possible - especially after his words about, that the US should return astronauts to the moon before China. The committee scheduled a vote 8 December regarding submission of a candidacy for consideration by the full Senate.

Isaacman, who was re-nominated last month after, as the White House withdrew his first nomination at the end of May, noted, what if the first hearing in April was devoted to getting to know him and outlining NASA's challenges, this time the tone is completely different. During the hearing, he emphasized that, that “the United States must remain the undisputed leader
in space research, however, as of today, the country is in a lot of competition
with a rival, which has the will and means to challenge American exceptionalism in many areas, including space - a strategically important height". He was referring to China and its plans to land astronauts on the moon by the end of the decade.

Mr. Jared hardly went into details, як саме він прискорюватиме повернення людини на Місяць. One of the main changes since April this year was the adoption of the law on budget reconciliation in July, who predicted almost 10 billions of dollars for NASA, a large part
of which are aimed at Artemis programs (SLS, Orion, Gateway). Budget request for 2026 year, released in May, called for the cancellation of Gateway and the end of the SLS and Orion programs after Artemis 3. In his opinion, the current architecture with SLS is the fastest way to achieve the nearest lunar goals, namely: to return to the moon earlier than America's main rival.

Another change since the first hearings was the October announcement by NASA Acting Administrator Sean Duffy that, that the agency is "opening up" SpaceX's contract for a lunar lander for Artemis 3 due to delays in Starship development. SpaceX and Blue Origin have since submitted proposals, aimed at accelerating the development of landing modules.
