Global Konet received a contract for the modernization of mobile satellite stations of the South Korean Navy, mounted on tactical trucks. The upgrade involves the replacement of the traditional reflex X-band antennas with ESA flat phased arrays (Electronically Steered Array), which will provide faster and safer satellite communication.
Key improvements to the communication system
Before modernization:
- 2.4-meter parabolic X-band antennas were used.
- The deployment time after arriving at the position was more than an hour.
- Heavy system weight (120 Kg) and the need for additional components (TWTA, LNA, frequency converters).
- Vulnerability to missile strikes, artillery and drones due to prolonged deployment.
After modernization:
- Transition to the Ka-band network of the Anasis II satellite for higher data transfer rates.
- Installation of OTM Omega2 flat ESA antennas:
- Deployment time reduced to 10 minutes.
- Ability to work on the go without losing signal.
- Reduced weight (26 Kg), which allows to reduce costs by a third.
- Increased mobility:
- Rapid deploy/collapse allows you to leave the combat zone in less than a quarter 10 minutes.
- Less likely to come under enemy fire.
