Finnish company ICEYE and South Korean satellite operator KT SAT have entered into a strategic partnership to provide advanced flood monitoring solutions to government agencies and commercial organizations in South Korea.
The signing of the agreement was officially announced on Thursday, 23 July 2026 year. This event marked the first deployment and direct use of ICEYE's specialized analytics services in the Korean market.
The essence of cooperation and technological advantages
Use of SAR radars: The project is based on data from the world's largest commercial constellation of synthetic aperture satellites (SAR) from ICEYE. Radar pulses allow you to get clear pictures of the Earth through dense clouds, showers, smoke or in complete darkness.
Work during monsoons: The South Korean government is integrating the solution Flood Rapid Impact during the annual summer monsoon season.
Instant analysis of destruction: Within a few hours after the start of flooding, the system generates detailed digital maps with the exact boundaries of the water spill and the depth of the flooding, which helps rescue services to instantly assess the extent of the disaster.
Solutions for GIS (GIS-ready): Thanks to the local expertise of the KT SAT company, customers will receive ready geoinformation data packages not only for flood monitoring, but also for tracking soil subsidence (land subsidence).
In addition to emergency flood response, satellite data are planned to be used for a wider range of civil tasks. The partners plan to involve municipal authorities and the insurance sector for long-term environmental monitoring, assessment of damage to infrastructure and strategic planning of resilience of cities to future climate changes.
