17 November 2025 year Fr. 05:21 (UTC) from the US Space Force Vandenberg Base, California, USA, using a launch vehicle «Falcon 9 Block 5» the spacecraft was launched «Sentinel-6В».
«Sentinel-6B» – a European-American satellite for high-precision observation of the World Ocean. This is the second device of the Copernicus Sentinel-6 mission and the successor of the Sentinel-6 Michael Freilich satellite, which continues a more than 30-year continuous streak of sea level measurements, launched by the TOPEX/Poseidon and Jason-1/2/3 missions.
The satellite is equipped with a POSEIDON-4 radar altimeter, microwave radiometer AMR-C, GNSS POD receiver, by the DORIS system, laser reflector and GNSS-RO equipment. This provides highly accurate measurements of sea level, wave height and wind characteristics over the ocean, as well as vertical profiles of temperature and humidity in the troposphere and stratosphere regardless of weather conditions.
«Copernicus» – a program of continuous observations of the state of the Earth, which is managed by the European Commission in cooperation with the states – members of the European Union, by the European Space Agency, by the European Organization of Satellite Meteorology, The European Center for Medium-Term Weather Forecasts.
