According to official reports, "Shijian 31" is intended for researching the space environment and working out new technologies, which can be used in future space missions. The actual purpose is unknown.
«Long March 3B» – disposable three-stage launch vehicle with four lateral liquid-propellant rocket boosters, this is the heaviest version of the Long March missile family 3 and is primarily used to place communications satellites in geostationary orbits.
Presented by 2007 year modification «Long March 3B/E» was distinguished by increased carrying capacity, which made it possible to launch heavier payloads into geostationary orbit.
