«SPACESAIL DTC-01» – is a technology demonstration satellite for China's commercial communications constellation SPACESAIL (Qianfan) in low Earth orbit. The designation "DTC" is widely interpreted as "Direct to Cellular" (or "Direct to device"), which indicates that, that the spacecraft is designed to test satellite communications directly with standard cell phones, using terrestrial cellular protocols. Mission, probably, supports China's broader efforts to add direct satellite communications to mobile networks, complementing the rapidly growing SPACESAIL broadband constellation and helping to test future space-based cellular coverage for remote, marine, emergency and underserved regions.
«CMCC-02» – is the second specialized experimental satellite, sponsored by China Mobile Communications Group for direct satellite communication and integration with land mobile services. Expected, that the spacecraft will evaluate the space-telephone link, сумісність мобільних мереж та операційні концепції, що підтримують новий бізнес супутникового зв’язку China Mobile. Його запуск відбувається після китайських регуляторних та комерційних ініціатив, що сприяють розвитку послуг прямого зв’язку з стільниковим зв’язком (Direct-to-stone) великими телекомунікаційними операторами, що свідчить про те, що CMCC-02 слугуватиме орієнтиром на орбіті для майбутніх гібридних стільниково-супутникових мереж, здатних розширити покриття за межі досяжності звичайної наземної інфраструктури.
