«MTG-S1» (Meteosat Third Generation – Sounder 1) - This is the first satellite of the new generation Meteosat, orbiting geostationary. Expected, that the satellite will provide high efficiency in forecasting dangerous weather phenomena and monitoring atmospheric pollution with data updates every 15-60 minutes. This is the second satellite of the MTG series after the launch of the shooting MTG-I1 in 2022 year. The launch of the next sounding satellite, MTG-S2, is planned for the 2030s.

The mission was commissioned by the European Organization for the Operation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT) and the European Commission within the framework of the Copernicus program, and the European Space Agency is the technical operator (THIS).
