German aerospace company Isar Aerospace and Canadian operator Maritime Launch Services (MLS) signed an official contract for the construction and use of a dedicated launch complex at the future Spaceport Nova Scotia in eastern Canada.
This agreement expands the capabilities of both parties within the defense and commercial partnership between NATO countries.
Основні деталі угоди:
Target destination: Construction of own launch pad and infrastructure for launches of the two-stage Spectrum launch vehicle (load capacity up to 1000 Kg).
Work schedule: Deployment of ground infrastructure at the spaceport near the city of Canso (Нова Шотландія) is planned to start during 2026 year.
Перші запуски: The start of orbital missions from the Canadian site is scheduled for 2028 year.
orbits: The site will allow the launch of medium and high inclination satellites and polar orbits, which is important for Earth remote sensing and communication devices.
To gain a foothold in the North American market, the German developer has already created a local subsidiary, Isar Aerospace Canada Inc. The agreement is based on a letter of intent, підписаному в травні 2026 year. It became part of a large-scale industrial package (офсетної програми) of the German shipbuilding giant thyssenkrupp Marine Systems (TKMS).
Компанія TKMS залучила Isar Aerospace, щоб запропонувати Канаді створення суверенного супутникового потенціалу, посилюючи свою заявку на постачання канадському флоту 12 нових підводних човнів (проєкт CPSP). Just before the signing of the space contract, the Canadian government officially announced TKMS as a priority supplier of submarines.
At the same time, the Canadian military is developing this site for its own defense needs, having previously entered into a 10-year lease agreement with MLS for the amount 200 million Canadian dollars.
