The DRAGO-2 infrared camera recorded an oil trail around the Caroline Bezengi tanker, that ran aground near Al-Qibla Island off the coast of Oman. The observation was made by the ALISIO-1 satellite, created by the specialized IACTEC-Space team at the Institute of Astrophysics of the Canary Islands with the participation of Open Cosmos, Deimos і D-Orbit. The tanker ran aground
in June 2026 year; since then, the Omani authorities have been taking measures to eliminate oil leaks. The spill area is estimated at approx 400 km².
The main payload of ALISIO-1 (A modern Earth remote sensing satellite for observations in the infrared range) there is an infrared camera DRAGO-2, operating in the 1100–1600 nm range with resoln 50 m/pixel. Порівняння її зображень із даними супутників системи Sentinel підтверджує співставний обсяг інформації, попри досконалішу оптику останніх. Це свідчить про те, що супутникові технології стають доступними навіть для невеликих спільнот, які можуть самостійно оцінювати масштаби стихійних лих.
