China has launched a satellite for the development of space internet

China has successfully launched a new experimental satellite, aimed at the development of space internet technology, as part of an ambitious plan to create a global satellite communication network.

11 April 2026 The satellite was launched into orbit aboard the Smart Dragon-3 rocket (also known as Jielong-3), which started from the water area near the coast of Yangjiang in Guangdong province in southern China. The mission is part of a broader national strategy to create a large-scale satellite Internet constellation in low Earth orbit. The project envisages the deployment of several thousand satellites to ensure high-speed global connectivity, especially in remote and underprivileged regions, where there is no traditional infrastructure.

China has accelerated launches 2024 year to expand the network, which after full deployment, as expected, will amount to more than 15 000 satellites. Analysts note, that this initiative makes China a serious competitor in the fast-growing satellite Internet market alongside global efforts to provide broadband coverage around the world from space.
