Starfish Space has won a contract from the Space Development Agency to remove satellites from orbit

21 January 2026 2015, the American company Starfish Space announced the signing of a contract with the Space Development Agency (Space Development Agency, SDA) for the amount
$52,5 A million. The agreement consists in the provision of the "de-orbit" service for spacecraft
within the framework of the program "Distributed space architecture for the warrior" (Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture (Pwsa)) – a constellation in low Earth orbit. PWSA includes "Tracking Layer" satellites for missile detection and "Transport Layer" satellites for communications.

According to the contract, Starfish will launch one of its Otter space tugs at 2027 year. The spacecraft will dock with the PWSA satellite, who is unable to get out on his own
from orbit, will move it to a much lower orbit, and then released for accelerated entry into the atmosphere. The CEO of Starfish Space emphasized, that the agency buys the service itself, not an Otter device. Starfish will manage Otter, while the agency will independently select the satellite for launch.

The SDA contract adds to Starfish's order book, which already includes contracts from the US Space Force for the satellite maintenance mission, from NASA to inspect the satellite and
from Intelsat (now part of SES) to extend the service life of the GEO communication satellite.
