As part of the reform of the Pentagon's procurement system, the US Space Force created a new department, the Technology Portfolio Executive (Technology portfolio management). It reports directly to the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Space Acquisition and Integration and is designed to bridge the gap between the service's operational needs and industry capabilities.
The Department will closely cooperate with the Department of Procurement on portfolios of areas (PAE), who will have full-cycle program management authority within designated mission areas. Its main task is to ensure the transition of promising technologies from industrial developments to operational applications and product lines.
Unlike PAE, the new administration is not limited to a single mission field. It will carry out a broad review of scientific research and cooperation with industry, in particular with commercial companies, to bring technologies to the prototyping stage.
