LeoLabs has been awarded a contract to deploy a space monitoring radar in the Indo-Pacific region

LeoLabs company, which is engaged in space monitoring, received a contract for 60 million dollars to deploy a new radar in the Indo-Pacific region. The contract was concluded within the framework of the STRATFI program, which was supported by the SpaceWERX organization of the US Space Force.

Contract and mission details:

Date of announcement: 8 March 2025 year.

Financing: Half of the amount is supported by the SBIR program and defense agencies, the other is from private investors LeoLabs.

Goal: Deployment of radar for monitoring satellites and orbital objects, in particular, to track Chinese satellite launches and maneuvers.

Technical characteristics:

The new installation will be based on radar, which operates in the UHF range and has a phased array antenna. It will provide a wide view of the orbital space and will be much larger than the already operational radar in Arizona.

The role of radar for the United States:

The installation will close the gaps in the sensor coverage of the South Pacific Ocean, helping the US detect hypersonic missiles and potential threats to satellites. It is part of the LeoLabs global network, which complements the existing US space surveillance system.
