LeoLabs Deploys Mobile Radar to Track Space Objects in Indo-Pacific

10 June 2026 LeoLabs announced the deployment of the Scout-S mobile radar in the Indo-Pacific region to monitor Chinese satellites and other spacecraft.

The California company said, that Scout-S tracks maneuvering objects in low Earth orbit, particularly the Chinese Yaogan reconnaissance satellites (800–1000 km) and the Chinese space plane. The system is housed in a standard 20-foot container and becomes fully operational in a few hours.

Scout-S is the first operational model in the LeoLabs line of transportable sensors, which can be quickly deployed to reinforce coverage. Unlike stationary radars, the new system provides constant tracking of maneuvering vehicles, and not just predicting orbits.

According to LeoLabs CEO Tony Fraser, the priority is now continuous tracking of active objects. The company catalogs more than 26 000 space objects and is increasingly oriented towards military needs due to China's growing activity in space.

The Scout-S is planned to be used during Valiant Shield exercises 2026 in Hawaii with the participation of the United States, Japan and allies. The company is also developing the Scout-X (antimissile) and Scout-M (marine) with the support of the US Space Force. The Scout-S system is already available for purchase by the US government and allies.
