BAE Systems has successfully completed strategic radiation immunity testing of its new Endura System-on-Chip processor (SoC), developed for military satellites, anti-missile defense systems and deep space. Tests confirmed, that the chip remains functional as under the conditions of natural cosmic radiation, as well as for extreme radiation exposure during strategic defense missions.
Key specifications of the Endura chip:
Technology: Created on a commercial 45-nanometer (RH45) radiation protection technology based on silicon on the insulator (SOI).
SoC architecture: Combines the processor, memory (cache memory of the 1st and 2nd levels) and communication interfaces in one crystal.
Flexibility thanks to FPGA: Has integrated programmable logic (FPGA) for hardware acceleration of specific mission tasks.
Energy efficiency: Provides high performance with critically low energy consumption and reduced weight (SWaP).
The chip is an upgraded version of the radiation-resistant RAD510 microprocessor. The design was handled by the BAE Systems division in Manassas (Virginia). Direct fabrication takes place at GlobalFoundries' secure commercial facility in New York State. This approach combined advanced commercial capabilities with strict US military standards and protected supply chains from foreign interference..
The company has already opened orders for test boards (Software Development Units) for space software developers.
