HALO module for the Gateway Monthly Station arrived in the US

The first sealed module of the Gateway orbital station — the future space base in lunar orbit — arrived in the United States, taking another step towards launch. In lunar orbit, the station will be a key element of the Artemis program, which involves returning humans to the moon and preparing for the first manned flight to Mars.

HALO Module (Habitation and Logistics Outpost), one of the two main Gateway elements, 1 arrived in Arizona in April after being transported from Turin, Italy, where it was manufactured by Thales Alenia Space. It will now undergo final outfitting at Northrop Grumman's Gilbert facility, Arizona. The HALO will then be integrated with the power and motion cell (Power and Propulsion Element) at the NASA spaceport in Florida. Both modules are planned to be launched together by a SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket.

The HALO module will provide the crew of Artemis missions with living space, work and conducting scientific research, and will also become a preparatory base for landing on the lunar surface. Its functionality will include command, data processing, energy storage, power distribution, temperature regulation, communication and navigation through the Lunar Link system, provided by the European Space Agency (THIS). Docking ports for the Orion spacecraft are provided, lunar landing modules and cargo missions. HALO will also support science instruments both internally, as well as outside - this will allow research and testing of technologies in the difficult conditions of open space.
