NASA is considering returning the SR-71 Blackbird reconnaissance aircraft to service. Satellite images of NASA's Armstrong Flight Research Center recorded the movement of board no 844 from an open area near Edwards Air Force Base to an inspection hangar, що зумовило припущення щодо відновлення польотів найшвидшого реактивного літака в
історії авіації. The head of NASA, Jared Isaacman, presented the concept of the device with signs of similarity to the SR-71 and stated the agency's intention to fly at altitudes and speeds, corresponding to or exceeding the indicators of previous decades.
The SR-71 Blackbird made its first flight in December 1964 year, was adopted at the beginning of 1966 and during 24 years of service gained the status of the fastest and highest-flying serial aircraft. In July 1976 speed records were set on it 3529,56 km/h and altitude 25 929 meters. The last flight of board no 844 took place 9 October 1999 year, after which the device is placed in a museum exhibit.
NASA turned to former engineers to assess the possibility of reviving the project, however, experts express skepticism due to the long stay of the glider under the influence of atmospheric factors, loss of unique engine components and destruction of spare parts 2007 year. The official agency does not confirm the revival of the Blackbird and notes the lack of additional information regarding the future fate of the aircraft.
