5 August 2026 2018, the Portuguese company Neuraspace announced the involvement 18 million US dollars for the development of European space awareness systems (SDA) and defense capabilities.
For reference: Neuraspace is a technology company, founded in 2020 year, which develops a space traffic management and space awareness platform based on artificial intelligence and machine learning. It helps satellite operators protect the devices from collisions with space debris.
Funding includes approx 7 million USD in a Series B round from venture capitalists and 11 million USD from the Portuguese Recovery and Resilience Plan (EU program). The funds are aimed at the development of the NeuraspaceDEF platform — an artificial intelligence system for civilian and defense users. The company's software aggregates data from public directories, ground-based telescopes and own optical sensors. Neuraspace currently monitors over 600 clients' satellites, including Spire Global and the European Space Agency. Over the past year, the company's revenues have increased by more than 350%. The new funds will also be used to supplement optical telescopes with radar sensors.
For reference: Spire Global is a global American space technology and data analytics company, which controls its own large fleet of nanosatellites (cubits). It collects unique radio frequency data from orbit for weather forecasting, climate modeling, and worldwide ship and aircraft tracking.
Neuraspace cooperates with the Portuguese Air Force, entered the NATO DIANA program and was chosen as the main contractor of one of the European ministries.
