Germany ordered a SAR satellite for the sum 1,9 billion dollars in Rheinmetall-Iceye

In Germany, a contract has been signed for the creation of a new satellite surveillance system using SAR technology (synthetic aperture radar) for the amount of approx 1,9 A billion dollars of US. This contract was concluded between the Federal Office for Equipment of the Bundeswehr, information technology and use (BAAINBw) and joint venture, created by the defense concern Rheinmetall and the Finnish aerospace company ICEYE.

System, consisting of 12 satellites, called Leda-Ng (short for Leda-New Generation). Expected, that it will replace the current German SAR-Lupe system by 2030 year and will provide the country with constant access to independent surveillance data, which is essential for national defense and intelligence.
