The New Zealand defense forces activated a new space squadron

The royal military-air forces of New Zealand (RNZAF) created their first specialized space unit by re -activating squadron No. 62, reported Defense Minister Judith Collins.

The move demonstrates New Zealand's commitment to protecting its interests and security in outer space, which is developing rapidly.

Squadron No. 62 was officially reinstated during a ceremony at the RNZAF base in Auckland. During World War II, the squadron supported Allied operations through innovative use of radar technology. Now her mission is focused on space awareness.

The main task of the squadron will be monitoring, analysis and understanding of space activities for the protection of national and international interests. The move is in line with recent global events, which emphasized the need for sustainable and advanced defense capabilities.

The renewal of the squadron is part of the Defense Capability Plan, which involves investment in $12 billions to modernize the New Zealand Armed Forces over the next four years.
