The American company SpaceX reported a dangerous incident in low Earth orbit, when one of its Starlink satellites STARLINK-6079 narrowly avoided a collision with a Chinese spacecraft.
The collision was avoided during the launch of the Chinese apparatus 9 December 2025 year. The Starlink satellite almost collided with the spacecraft of the Chinese company CAS Space (a subsidiary of the Chinese Academy of Sciences), which launched with the Kinetica rocket 1. The objects approached the critical distance close 200 meters.
SpaceX Vice President of Starlink Engineering Solutions, Michael Nicholls (Michael Nicolls), publicly stated, that the situation is of serious concern due to the complete lack of coordination and data sharing (ephemerides) about flight trajectories from the Chinese operator.
The Starlink satellite was forced to perform an evasive maneuver, to prevent a collision, which could create a significant amount of space debris.
