Oleksandr Kornienko discussed cooperation in the space sphere with the European Commissioner

First Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Kornienko held a meeting with European Commissioner for Defense and Space Andrius Kubilius and First Vice-Rector of the Igor Sikorskyi KPI Mykhailo Bezugly.

The parties discussed cooperation in the field of space technologies, in particular for defense purposes.

University representatives presented their developments in the space industry, in particular, derived nanosatellites of the PolyITAN series, developed according to the international CubeSat standard thanks to the implemented space program.

Oleksandr Kornienko emphasized, that KPI initiated the launch of the Space Program of the Ministry of Education and Culture of Ukraine with the participation of specialized higher educational institutions

They also participated in the development of the Space Program: Dnipro National University named after Oles Honchar, National Aviation University "Kharkiv Aviation Institute named after M.E. Zhukovsky", National Technical University "Dniprovska Polytechnic", National Technical University "Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute", Lviv Polytechnic National University and Polis National University.
The first vice-speaker also noted, that in June of this year the Verkhovna Rada ratified the renewal of the Agreement between the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the European Space Agency on cooperation in the use of outer space for peaceful purposes.

Currently, according to Oleksandr Kornienko, there are a number of European programs, to which Ukraine can potentially join. The first deputy emphasizes, that it is important for Ukraine to develop a space strategy and relevant areas of activity.

Ukraine has inherent leadership in certain advanced areas of science and technology, particularly in space research. Higher education institutions of Ukraine take an active part in scientific research and scientific and technical development in this field.

Ukrainian higher educational institutions are not only the driving force and centers for the implementation of scientific research and innovative projects in the field of space, but also play an important role in the training of specialists of various educational and scientific levels, able to implement projects at the national and international level.
