24 November 2025 року Space Communication Technologies (SCT), operator, supported by the state in Oman, announced the signing of a contract with the European company Airbus for the construction of the OmanSat-1 satellite. This Ka-band satellite will use Airbus' OneSat software-defined platform, which will allow reconfiguration of communication opportunities in the Middle East, in East Africa and Asia. The agreement also includes a knowledge sharing initiative, since Oman, like other Middle Eastern countries, seeks to expand its space capabilities and diversify its economy in preparation for the future, less dependent on oil.
Oman marked its entry into the space sector last year with the launch of the OL-1, optical remote sensing satellite, developed in cooperation with China and local startup Oman Lens. This launch followed the loss of the previous satellite, developed with the Polish company SatRev, during the failed launch of Virgin Orbit's LauncherOne rocket at 2023 year. in addition, in February of this year, the Spanish company PLD Space signed an agreement to launch its small Miura launch vehicle 5 from the new spaceport in Oman, perhaps, already in 2027 year.
