Falcon rocket 9 returned to flying after investigating a problem with the upper stage engine

7 February 2026 Roku rocket Falcon 9 launched from the Vandenberg base of the US Space Force in California and launched a cargo from 25 Starlink satellites after that, as SpaceX completed an investigation into an engine failure during its previous launch.

For reference: 2 February Falcon 9 launched another batch of Starlink satellites also from Vandenberg. The mission successfully deployed the payload, however, SpaceX later reported, that an "abnormal situation" with the upper stage made it impossible to carry out the planned deorbit maneuver. The company has postponed subsequent launches to investigate the issue.

6 February, the US Federal Civil Aviation Administration said, which gave SpaceX permission to return the Falcon 9 before flights. The final incident report states, that the likely root cause of the malfunction was a problem with the ignition of the rocket's second stage engine before the deorbit maneuver. SpaceX, for its part, has identified technical and organizational preventive measures, to avoid a repeat event.

The conclusion of the investigation allows SpaceX and NASA to continue preparations for the launch of the Crew-12 mission to the International Space Station, not earlier than planned 11 February.
