The Russian space industry is going through a deep crisis, which refutes the Kremlin's claims about its power, the Center for Combating Disinformation reports. One of the largest and oldest companies in the industry, Energy Rocket and Space Corporation, was on the verge of closure. The management recognized the critical situation: the company has multi-million debts, lost the motivation of staff and faces the risk of stopping activity. in addition, private Russian holding company SR Space, which promised a breakthrough in the creation of light launch vehicles and satellite groups, officially declared bankrupt.
Sanctions effectively deprived Russia of access to critical Western technologies, which led to the halt of space launches for foreign customers. The country is losing competitiveness compared to such leaders, like the US and China. In the context of the war, the space industry took a back seat for the Kremlin, because the main resources are directed to the army and weapons.
The crisis leads to the degradation of the industry, loss of qualified personnel, technologies and perspectives, destroying the myth of Russia as “a great space state”.
