Spire Global has revealed another element of its campaign to rapidly scale up satellite manufacturing in Germany: strategic cooperation with Schaeffler AG, a large German manufacturer of automobile systems and other motion technologies.
In early May, Spire opened a plant in Munich for the development and production of 100 satellites per year. According to the memorandum dated 27 May 2026 year, Spire will draw on Schaeffler's expertise in precision engineering, strict production discipline and mass production. To 2030 companies plan to create a powerful base for the production of sovereign space equipment in Germany. Technologies will be tested in orbit and serve security needs, defense, meteorology and the civil sector.
Initially, the companies will work together to secure and scale the supply chain of key satellite components and subsystems, from engines to jet wheels. The partners are also going to set up mass production of satellite platforms for European groups.
