Startup Scout Space, which specializes in space monitoring technologies, closed the Series A financing round on 18 millions of dollars, which will support future missions and expand the company's production capacity, in particular, for the arrangement of the production premises with an area 2600 square feet in Northern Virginia.
Founded in 2019 Scout develops sensors and detection software, tracking and characterization of objects in orbit. Its systems combine optical payloads with on-board data processing and autonomous software, which allows spacecraft to analyze their surroundings.
Scout Space CEO Josiah Gruber said, that a widely deployed sensor network in space is fundamental to understanding and operating safely in orbit. The company's business model is focused on the supply of sensors and software for space monitoring, which can be integrated into various spacecraft, and not on the construction of individual satellites.
Scout is working with Blue Origin to integrate its Owl sensor into the first mission of the Blue Ring, a maneuverable multi-role spacecraft, designed to place payloads and provide on-orbit services in geostationary orbit and beyond. The company has also won defense contracts from the US Space Force.
