Sierra Space has successfully completed the next stage of the demonstration of its Resilient GPS technology (R-GPS) For US space forces (USSF) under contract with the Space Systems Command (SSC).
This is already the third technical milestone, which provided for the early integration of R-GPS technologies in the FlatSat format — when the satellite components are tested in an exploded form on a flat platform. The successful operation of the flight software was also confirmed, hardware subsystems and an effective exchange of commands and telemetry between the ground software Sierra Space and the provider of communication stations is established.
The company received the "quick start" contract within the R-GPS program in September 2023 of the year — only six months after the start of the program, which emphasizes Sierra Space's ability to quickly implement new technologies in the field of national security.
This step brings the company closer to the goal of creating smaller and more economical navigation satellites, able to complement the existing GPS system. The R-GPS program is intended to increase the resilience and flexibility of the US navigation infrastructure both in orbit, as well as in the ground segment of management.
