Costa Mesa-based CerraCap Ventures has invested in Space Kinetic Corp.'s seed round., a proven innovative company in the field of US national security with headquarters in Albuquerque. Company, which deals with space and anti-missile defense, attracted 12 million dollars in seed funding led by Balerion Space Ventures and backed by Industrious Ventures, Brand Ventures, UP.Abundance, Backswing Ventures, NM Vintage Fund, Abo Empire та CerraCap Ventures.
The main innovation of Space Kinetic is the patented tug platform, which the company called "Long Bow" (The Longbow) is a rotary system, which holds the payload, accelerates it to the specified revolutions, and then deploys along a new trajectory. When the payload leaves the rotary arm, it is instantly given a speed change.
This approach allows us to rethink some of the fundamental assumptions about maneuvering in space and enable revolutionary dynamic space operations.
Longbow can be integrated into a specialized satellite or other spacecraft and can transport a wide range of payloads depending on the type of mission. The key factor is that, which is unlike any other space mobility solution, no need to start the engine and no need to directly use any fuel to provide this speed change.
Development was initiated under a first-phase SBIR contract under the Department of the Air Force's open solicitation 2023 year. Through these efforts, Space Kinetic is creating sophisticated models for a distributed logistics architecture in space and collaborating with stakeholders like AFRL, as well as in the Space Systems Command, to formulate a broader system. This is a key milestone for the product roadmap and complements ongoing hardware development efforts.
