2 February 2026 year during the launch of the party from 25 Starlink satellites from the Vandenberg base (Group mission 17-32) the rocket's upper stage experienced an "abnormal situation" during preparation for final burn and exit from orbit. The satellites themselves were successfully launched into their target orbit before the problem occurred. The company has activated the procedure for resetting the remaining fuel and pressure, to prevent an explosion in space. Runs are suspended for data analysis and root cause investigation.
This is not the first such case. For the past two years, Falcon 9 several times encountered anomalies of the upper degree:
July 2024: A crack in the sensor led to the loss 20 satellites.
September 2024: During the Crew-9 mission, the second stage landed outside the target area in the ocean due to engine failure.
The current pause may affect the schedule of future launches from Cape Canaveral, the closest of which was planned for 5 February. Since the Falcon 9 is the main "workhorse" for contracts with NASA and the Pentagon, any delay attracts the close attention of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
