SpaceX has launched over 10 000 satellites in its Starlink space internet mega-constellation. Although close 1000 of them returned to the Earth's atmosphere at a rate of one or two satellites per day, other satellites, deployed in a giant network around the planet, cover almost the entire globe. This means, that the solar storm and accompanying geomagnetic storm, which oscillates the magnetic field of our planet due to charged particles, probably, will affect some satellites.
The growing number of space objects will increase the threat of their unpredictable collisions, caused by solar storms, which are already deflecting Starlink satellites and affecting the Internet. The authors of the publication believe, that a tenfold increase could usher in a cosmic "communication apocalypse".
