Terran Orbital will supply the Nebula satellite platform for the Mitsubishi Electric LEO mission

Terran Orbital Company (which is now part of Lockheed Martin) officially confirmed, which will provide its Nebula platform for the Mitsubishi Electric LEO demonstration mission.

What this means for the industry:

Quantum security: The main feature of the mission is the testing of Quantum Key Distribution technology (QKD). This will allow data to be transferred, which are practically impossible to break, which is critical for future orbital data centers.

Nebula platform: This is a microsatellite (mass to 250 Kg), which has already proven itself in US defense projects (SDA Tranche 0). It has high positioning accuracy and a powerful power supply system (1 kW), which is ideal for optical communication.

Deadlines: Terran Orbital plans to transfer the platform to the Japanese side in 2027 year, and the launch of the mission is scheduled for 2029 year.
