The United Kingdom and Australia have confirmed their readiness and continue to develop cosmos cooperation, Renewing partnership within the Space Bridge program during the International Astronautical Congress (IAC) In Sydney. The updated agreement was signed by the head of the British Space Agency, Dr. Paul Bate, and the head of the Australian Space Agency, Enrico Palermo.
"Space Bridge" was launched in 2021 year as a framework agreement for strengthening cooperation, exchange of expertise and creation of new opportunities for the space industry of both countries. During this time, the program has already shown practical results: from water quality monitoring to the development of artificial intelligence systems for the safety of space operations. Now the updated format should deepen the successes and expand the areas of joint work.
As part of the latest round of the British International Bilateral Fund (IBF) the financing of new projects with the participation of Australian partners was announced. Including:
- Long Baseline Multistatic Radar — a test of a global radar network for tracking objects in distant orbits, in particular in the geostationary belt.
- SLOSH-Cat is a study of propellant movement in microgravity to improve the stability and accuracy of satellites.
- ARGUS — development of technology for autonomous approach and maintenance of satellites in orbit.
In addition, the AquaWatch-AUK project will also receive support, led by Surrey Satellite Technology Limited (SSTL), which creates an integrated system of water quality monitoring and forecasting.
The renewal of the agreement reflects the shared desire of both countries to strengthen government-to-government cooperation, industry and scientific institutions. It also highlights the role of space technology in addressing global challenges, from climate change to space security.
