US company Rocket Lab received a contract from the European Space Agency to launch a pair of Pathfinder A satellites to test the latest positioning and geolocation technologies. The mission is part of ECA Futurenav program, which allows the organization to respond to the trends and needs in the navigation industry.
Pathfinder A satellite is a cubsate weight of 20 to 30 kilograms, and their term of operation is six months in a low Earth orbit at an altitude of 510 kilometers. They will test the initial stages of signal transmission and demonstrate the underlying technologies, necessary for the deployment of the following units of the group. The launch should take place on the Electron rocket at the end 2025 year from the Rocket Lab launch complex in New Zealand.
