The US Space Force postponed the launch of the first orbital plane of missile tracking satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO) in early spring 2027 year. This segment of the PWSA network is being developed specifically for the detection and continuous tracking of hypersonic weapons, as well as other inconspicuous high-speed thermal targets. The delayed launch will allow for more detailed testing of the sensor integration infrastructure before the start of mass serial production.
At the current stage, the space echelon has 84 active devices of the transport level, which provide high-speed data transmission and tactical communication. Complete equipment of the first generation of the system (Tranche 1) requires six more group launches. Specialists of the Space Development Agency (SDA) confirm, that orbital checks last longer due to the technical complexity of simultaneous calibration and interaction of large clusters of 21 or 42 satellites within the same mission.
Tranche 4, will receive modernized space sensing equipment, on-board computing modules of increased power (on-orbit compute) and algorithms for autonomous data fusion directly in orbit.
Space Data Network, which is currently overwhelmed by the rapid increase in telemetry and target information. To relieve ground control stations, SDA The new technical strategy involves the synchronization of low-orbit LEO sensors with classic defense satellites on medium (MEO), highly elliptical (HEO) and geostationary orbits (GEO)
