Lynk Global's fundraising exceeded 85 millions of dollars, as the race for direct-to-smartphone satellite communications gathers pace

Lynk Global has attracted over 85 millions of US dollars to expand their satellite network of direct communication with your smartphone, Since the growing impulse from SpaceX and AST Spacemobile emphasizes the potential of the market.

Business in Falls Church, Virginia, published information on the financing of series B in the regulatory documentation dated 11 February, which showed plans to attract 215 million dollars — which is more than twice the amount, which was searched for last year.

The sale includes an option, which allows investors to buy shares at a predetermined price before expiration, which gives them a chance to make a profit, if the stock goes up.

Fundraising took place after that, like most Slam Corp investors, public company, led by former MLB star Alex Rodriguez, decided to buy back their shares for cash, rather than acquiring an interest in Lynk Global through the proposed merger.

Lynk needs additional capital, to scale the group, which uses cellular spectrum to expand the coverage of partner mobile operators in locations, inaccessible to ground infrastructure.

The company launched five satellites the size of a pizza box, which provide intermittent texting and low-bandwidth services to non-modified smartphones through partnerships with telecommunications companies in the Solomon Islands, Cook Islands, Palau and at least four other countries.

Expanding the group will improve coverage and reduce latency, which will allow Lynk to offer more reliable services to existing and future partners. Eventually, the company plans to roll out 5000 satellites to provide global connectivity.

Meanwhile, SpaceX and T-Mobile recently expanded their direct smartphone betas in the United States, allowing AT subscribers&T and Verizon to test the service for free before its official launch in July.

Last month, AST SpaceMobile raised a convertible debt of Rs 400 millions of dollars, to increase the production of satellites for its own direct connection network to smartphones, which cooperates with AT&T and Verizon in the United States. To date, AST SpaceMobile has deployed five operational spacecraft, but to provide uninterrupted 5G services across the country requires at least 40.

Analysts say, that the market value may exceed 100 billions of dollars, considering the number of people, which do not have a reliable terrestrial network connection around the world, although significant regulatory, financial and other obstacles still need to be overcome.
