Europe has concluded a contract on 900 millions of dollars to develop the monthly landing module Argonautautaut

European Space Agency (THIS) signed a contract with Thales Alenia Space on almost 900 millions of dollars for development Lunar Descent Element (Lde) – cargo vehicle landing module Argonaut, which will fulfill the missions for the month since the 2030s.

LDE will be responsible for transportation and boarding Argonaut, and will also have universal interface for the delivery of various cargoes and scientific instruments. The first mission involves delivery navigation and telecommunication equipment and energy systems to support European exploration of the south pole of the Moon.

THIS considers Argonaut as a potential cargo vehicle for NASA missions within the program Artemis, although its carrying capacity (2 tons) much smaller than HLS from SpaceX and Blue Origin, which are able to transport 12 tons.

Argonaut can be used for cargo deliveries to astronauts, deployment of lunar rovers, technological experiments, development of lunar resources and placement of telescopes or power stations.
